Leadership Team
Mr. Merchant holds a B.Sc Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Montana, a Petroleum Engineering Technologist Diploma from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, and a Journeyman Welding Certificate.
​
Mr. Merchant's experience includes design, construction, expediting, start up, problem solving and initial operation of facilities, including Compressor and Booster Compressor Stations, SAGD Facilities, Oil Batteries, and Gas Turbine installation/operation.

With over 15 + years of experience in the domestic energy field, Mr. Merchant has been involved in projects for the following customers: Trident Resources Corp., Connacher Oil and Gas Ltd., Deercreek Energy Ltd., Southern Pacific Resource Corp., Pengrowth Energy Corp., N-Solv Corp., Nuvista Energy Ltd., and Mosaic Energy Ltd.

Upon completing his degree, Mr. Merchant was employed by Deercreek Energy as a Field Engineer, followed by a position with BDR Engineering where he was responsible for design, construction, shop inspection and logistics. In 2010, he was hired by M&N Construction as a Project Engineer, and in 2011 was hired by Drifter Projects as a Project Manager. In 2013, Mr. Merchant established Breakaway and has been an active role in the company to date.
Mr. Bouschard began consulting for Renaissance Energy in 1984 and continued working alongside them for 19 years, where he built several oil & gas facilities, installed 600+ km of pipeline, and installed more than 25 complete gathering systems. He was instrumental in pioneering fibreglass pipelines as well as modularization.

Mr. Bouschard attributes his success to being involved with Renaissance Energy, a young aggressive oil company, as well as an equally aggressive, small, efficient engineering company, BDR Engineering. This partnership allowed Mr. Bouschard to bring forth his own ideas and practices to the construction site, which have been continually proven and refined over the years. Relationships formed in these early years still continue today.
In his time working with Drifter Projects, Mr. Bouschard built 2 Pilots, 4 SAGD Facilities, and 3 Cogens. Services included were civil, wellpads and associated surface and underground pipelines. Through proper cooperation and communication, these facilities were built on time and on budget, which is a pretty amazing feat in the Fort McMurray area.

In 2013, Mr. Bouschard followed Mr. Merchant to Breakaway and has provided key knowledge and experience to the Breakaway Energy Services Inc. team.
Mr. Carroll has over 40 years experience in the electrical trade. He holds an Alberta Journeyman Electrical Certificate and has spent the last twenty six years working across western Canada, including Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC in the Oil and Gas Industry.

Mr. Carroll's extensive experience includes fourteen years of being employed as an electrical lead hand and foreman in the Australian underground coal and open pit iron ore mining industries.
​
Mr. Carroll has been involved in many projects in western Canada, including Talisman Energy, Trident Energy, Devon Energy, Connacher Oil & Gas, and BDR Engineering to name a few.
​
In 2015, Mr. Carroll joined Breakaway, providing maturity and knowledge to our team.
His current duties include construction on a multitude of oil and gas production facilities across western Canada as an Electrical Construction Superintendent, which include all facets of electrical construction from hiring of contractors and Engineering to field site scheduling and execution. Mr. Carroll's experience in electrical design for large SAGD facilities and a variety of Oil Batteries and Gas Plants has proven to be an asset to the Breakaway Energy Services Inc team.
